Organ Transplant (Liver, Kidney, Heart)
What is Organ Transplantation?
Organ transplantation is an operation performed from the cadavers or live. The treatment of the patient, by placing a new and healthy organ taken from the live or dead, instead of the organs that are not able to function due to the diseases which cannot be treated medically, is called organ transplantation. Apart from heart transplantation, a significant part of the organs can be transplanted from the live to live. Liver, kidney, pancreas, small intestine and heart can be taken from the cadaver and transplanted to the patient.
Transplants from the live to live and from the cadaver to live
Every donated organ and every transplant means a life that has been saved. There are many people who have been connected to dialysis machine for many years or who do not donate their organs because of misconceptions about the organ donation and transplantation. 75- 80% of organ transplantation in Turkey is performed with organs taken from the live. In such transplants, a person who is completely healthy is operated and a part or half of his/her organ is taken.
Organ transplantation operations are performed with modern technology and techniques
Organ transplantation operations are important and require significant attention; however, they can be performed completely safe and without bleeding due to the modern surgical technology and techniques. For example; People who undergo laparoscopic surgery (closed operations) continue their normal life after 1 week or 10 days and never have a physical disability in their daily lives.
Who can be a donor?
According to the regulation of the Ministry of Health, inter-family organ transplants may be performed up to 4th degree. With the approval of the Regional Ethics Committee, non-relative organ transplantation may also occur. In terms of organ transplants, donor changes, referred as cross-transplants, can also take place within the legal framework.
The health institution chosen for transplantation is important.
In order to perform organ transplants in a hospital, the center should be providing a high level of service. Organ transplantation is not only an operation-related procedure. For the pre- and post-transplantation process, the polyclinics, laboratories, imaging units, inpatient clinics of the center and their joint work are very important. Organ transplantation is a multidisciplinary study. Therefore, only health institutions that have completed this study can perform organ transplants. As Volo, we provide the realization of the operations that our patients need, in the most elite JCI accredited hospitals in Turkey.
What you need to know about organ donation
The number of patients waiting for organ transplantation is increasing every year. Obesity, hypertension, congenital diseases, consanguineous marriages and mis-life habits play an important role in this increase.
Inadequate organ donation is one of the most important problems in the world and in our country. According to the latest data, approximately 30,000 people are waiting to be donated by cadavers. A person who has lost his/her life can donate his/her kidneys, liver, lungs, hearts, intestines, pancreas or corneas and can offer many people a healthy life.
